Call for trainers for Training Course “Value the Difference – Cross Community” Denmark, 14-20 March 2011

Organised and hosted by Danish Agency for International Education, the Danish National
Agency of the Youth in Action Programme in cooperation with SALTO Cultural Diversity
Resource Centre.
Trainers wishing to work on the seminar should read the call for trainers below, and either:

Training Course description
"Value the Difference" is a training module aiming at introducing topics around cultural
diversity and intercultural learning to youth workers and people working with young people.
"Value the Difference" is a module with fixed objectives and programme elements and a
secondary topic, chosen by the National Agency hosting the training. The secondary topic
gives a "flavour" to the training course and is reflected in the visits to the local reality and
throughout the programme (for example in the examples given).
Five "Value the Difference" training courses have already been organised:
- "Value the Difference - Media" (Slovenia, September 2008)
- "Value the Difference - Migration" (Italy, March 2009)
- "Value the Difference - Immigration processes" (Portugal, June 2009)
- "Value the Difference - From monoculture to cultural diversity" (Finland, October 2009)
- "Value the Difference - Mediation" (Hungary, October 2010)
This new module will have a specific focus on Cross Community Work.
Aims & objectives of the course
Overall aim of the training course
To reflect, explore and learn more about the field of Cultural Diversity in European youth work

Objectives
• To Reflect critically about personal and cultural identity
• To develop intercultural skills and competences related
to international youth projects
• To gain a greater understanding of cultural diversity in different local and national
realities
• To gain awareness of Cultural diversity in today's Europe by learning about the wider
geographical and historical perspectives
• To explore ways in which participants can generate (foster/create etc) a more tolerant
society
• To better understand concepts which related to of the themes/topics of CD
(stereotyping, prejudice, manipulation of culture etc)
• To get inspired to carry out future international youth projects through YiA programme
and other resource possibilities
Profile of participants:
25 participants from Programme Countries of the Youth in Action programme.
Youth Leaders/Workers
• Aged 18 years or older;
• Who have an interest in cultural diversity as a topic
• Who have already worked (in general) with youngsters in a group on local, regional,
national or international activities;
• Motivated to work on the topic of cultural diversity in their youth projects afterwards;
From an association that is in a position to implement future international youth
projects
• Can be new users of the Youth in Action programme or those with not so much
international experience;
• Who feel confident to express themselves in English about this topic;
• Who are committed to attend for the full duration of the course and are supported by
a sending organisation, institution or service;
• This is also open for NA staff to act as participants to develop their competences and
to utilise their role and expertise
Methodology & working language
The methods used are non-formal learning based methods.
Working language: (international) English
Dates and venue
The Course will take place from 15th of March 2011 (Arrival of the participants in the evening)
to 20th of March 2011 (Departure of participants in the morning). The team will arrive one day
before (evening of 14th of March 2011) and will leave in the afternoon of the 20th of March
2011 (after the evaluation meeting). This training course has 4 full programme days.
A two days preparation meeting will be organised in Denmark on 8-10 of November 2010
(arrival 8th in the afternoon - departure 10th after lunch) in Copenhagen.
